We are Sick and Tired of girls singers who play the guitar

And I'm sure Jewel started it all. (And I greatly love Jewel)
It was original at first.
And then it became overrated!
I mean, whats with all the Marie Digbys and Olivia Ongs and Michelle Branches(alright, alright, she's OK) and all the other 1001 girls who put up an act with their guitar., and people all go, awww she's cool, she plays the guitar! *raves* Strum strum strum.
Maybe its just me stereotyping against girl-with-guitars.
*pushes the blame* its Olivia Ong and Marie Digby's fault. They strum a few chords of the guitar to other people's songs and make a CD out of it.
I'm honestly honestly disgusted by that. I mean, if you want to release a voice and guitar album, the least you could do is make the songs original!
Covers+OK voice+Guitar= mediocre! well to me that is.
I didnt use to have anything against covers until i heard this girl called Olivia Ong's album.
And I'm starting to see Paul's POV and insistance of original songs as your mark of being a true artist. Its really a little sickening when an album is full of songs that you already know...and have heard better versions of.( That said, I am not totally against the existence of covers... i mean its how we all start learning, right? I guess an exception is Scarlett's anywhere I lay my head... she turned Tom Waits gems into... well, I can only call it an artistic frenzy. The Cough syrup-tinkerbell idea worked, what a combination!)
It also makes me want to scorn all the girl-with-guitar artists out there. Like, oh my god, not again, we've heard enough of this genre of people!
Which really isnt fair.  Cause I've just found this girl called Laura Marlin, who also plays with guitar, whom I almost passed up once i saw her with it. But im glad i gave her a chance cause her music is really cool... i mean its different from all the other girls. She may not be the next big thing, but at least her music is original. She even looks cool. She looks like a malnourished  Dakota fanning, actually. But it suits her music. I just cant stand the way they insist on putting that guitar on her in the video. It kinda seems too good to be true.... and a little poser. I think its because her playing isn't very exceptional. so its a little redundant showing off the whole guitar thing... But ah well... I would describe her music as Jolie Holland meets Jewel, and her looks/style as courtney love meets gemma ward. ok. Video time!
So apparently she's only 18 years old, which makes me quite jealous of her.
Judge for yourselves!
Enjoy~

So i guess you guys must be asking, then. Lizzie, I bet you hate girls with pianos then, dont you? But my answer is... I think I dislike men with pianos more. And Do i detect gender stereotypes here? Maybe, maybe not... I can't decide actually.
Or Maybe its just because I feel that the music produced by girls-with-guitars all sound, well, almost the same, like they're just imitating one another.
Similarly, Men-with-pianos. I bet it all started with Elton John. And then theres the whole repeatability thing. From Jamie Cullum to Ben Folds... you gotta admit, their music is similar.
So, is it because there are as yet, too few Men-with-pianos and Girls-with-guitars for diversity in music that they all sound similar, or is it because the trend for it just picked up and therefore it all sounds similar?
By the way, I AM referring to solo artists, and not... others.
Take a look at the more stereotypical Men-with- guitars and girls-with-pianos
From the likes of Brendan Benson or Sondre lerche, to people like malmsteen and/or Paulo Gilberto... even Julio igleasias. All guitar, all totally different styles of music
From the likes of Regina Spektor, to Vanessa Carlton to Amy lee(because evanescence IS Amy Lee, right?) ... you get the picture.
Thats something to think about for you.

You're not a teenager so dont act like one

Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.

More and More

More and more frequently the edges
of me dissolve and I become
a wish to assimilate the world, including
you, if possible through the skin
like a cool plant's tricks with oxygen
and live by a harmless green burning.

I would not consume
you or ever
finish, you would still be there
surrounding me, complete
as the air.

Unfortunately I don't have leaves.
Instead I have eyes
and teeth and other non-green
things which rule out osmosis.

So be careful, I mean it,
I give you fair warning:

This kind of hunger draws
everything into its own
space; nor can we
talk it all over, have a calm
rational discussion.

There is no reason for this, only
a starved dog's logic about bones.

Your democratic ideals are useless outside your country

Here's a gorgeous song, I've listened to many many versions, but i liked this one by far the best.

Today I am excited
1. Camera Obscura's in town! *squeals*
2. Swirls new collection comin out next month!!! *double squeals*
also I like cyndi lauper, i think she's cool.
tsk tsk. here's a meme, why do they call it that anyway?
1. What would you do if you hadn't met the Purple People Eater?
I'd be a lost soul wandering around aimlessly with no illusions in life. Desolate and empty. Oh, purple people eater, how you have filled my life with such inspiration and hope. I am but an insipid slug without your divine existence!
2. . Would you love to read Dreamworks's very personal diary?
Hell yeah, then I would take over the world, muah hahahaha
3.  What is one thing Roseanne isn't exactly made for?
     Uh, Modelling?
4. Ever slept in the same room with Shakespeare?
Yup, we were lovers, once. That was before he left me for that older woman. Why else would I be such a literary genius?
5. Who would win in a duel, the postman or yourself? And what kind of duel would they pick, anyway?
The postman, I guess. He's more fit, for one thing. Erm, motorbike challenge!!! Mr. Postman would win hands down, though.
6. Can Dr. House be bad influence?
You'd have to ask Paul about this one.
7. Who's Dumbledore dating?
     Me.
8. If you could do anything with Jesus, what would it be?
Lol! That's between Him and me, so shoo fly, all you common folk.
9. Will a boy eat those green eggs and ham?
     ... Don't boys eat anything?
10. What do you think of Particle Man?
Sharon Says : I think he should mate with atom girl.

Get the original meme here
thanks Sali! ;)

The Living and the Dead

OMG. and I was supposed to be studying html.
In the end. I stupidly went online to find out about the presidency debate. which is tmrw, by the way 900am sg time.
But of course I got distracted by youtube and amazon.com
tsk tsk. html help, anyone?
tonight I have been listening Scarlett Johansson, Tom Waits, Jolie Holland and Charlotte Gainsbourg (who is gorgeous)
Hollands new album is well... popish. I dont know if its in a bad way or not. To most fans, its a welcome change from her dark, obscure-countryside-inn bluesy feel.
But then it was what I kinda appreciated her for. Not that this album hasn't got its plus points.
whoever produced/mixed this album did well by using her beautiful rustic voice to its maximum effect. so what was once her primitive box violin like voice now sounds like a neo middle ages plus kinda thingy. I mean her voice sounds richer and more pop now but I guess it suits the album. Saw the viddyO for Mexico City and she's gone gorgeous. I mean gorgeous in Lizzie's perspective. But I'm kinda still sitting on the fence on this album, until I've heard the whole thing. I only hope there's more of the old Jolie in it.
I want Cds and I want them badly :(
somehow getting them off the net isnt as thrilling as it was for me anymore.

We read BBC and NatGeo for entertainment

Serena, have you ever seen Giselle Bundchen?
seriously, what was she thinking?

Well I'd give her credit for her confidence.
Miss Trudy and ChrisG have officially turned us into newsheads with a passion for current affairs. Chan thinks we have issues.

I might just agree with her.

Oh Sali dear, the quote isnt from Dracula but Camera Obscura's song, If looks could kill. Let me find the link and add it here.

Whoohooz, I ace at html. LOL

THE FASHIONISTAS GOT IT WRONG

I secretly(and take delight) gloat that fashionistas have no clue about fashion. LOL or rather, ancient fashion.
So here's the deal: Sali and I have been really into the whole ancient civilization fashion thing lately(around hari raya) actually she got me into it, and I thank her for that!!(or I would've been an ignorant pimp myself) and have realized that so and so's 'grecian inspired' gown did not, in fact, have its originations in greece at all, and so and so's 'gypsy style' was so not gypsy at all? LOLLERS.
SOMETIMES i wonder if I should turn this into a fashion blog to educate, and show off knowledge(pfft!). But then again I wouldnt call my wardrobe very fashionable, I mean half the time im slacking in a nondescript skirt and an oversized tee, so, nothing worth showing. Yeah, maybe wait till I get my white sperry's, alligator kittens, jack purcells and tailored utilities(did I mention that I want a gorgeous kimono top with the wrap thing and kimono sleeves?!)which will probably only happen when I get/earn/save/stumble upon the money which will probably be in like a few years
oh, random, we should check out felt.
what happened to all the ethnic clothing shit that I was into?
the hari raya bazaar closed down before i got my pay
I couldnt find a sari I liked so will ask sonya to get me one when she goes to india in dec.
I promised sali we'd go shoppathon after her a levels which would only happen in dec.
great, I have 2 months to get/earn/save/stumble upon the money then I can be this totally ethno-ccentric(and I mean it in the pun way)  chica gal.
so my school starts tmrw, uugggg~
wardrobe options: SP shirt+ nondescript skirt.
I have sworn off pants ever since working in a pair during the two months of slogging at work.
